Gilles Leclerc joined the Canadian Space Agency in 1989. He gained experience as project engineer, manager and then Director in a variety of technology development, satellite communications and international space programs. Between 1997 and 2000, Mr. Leclerc was posted at the Canadian Embassy in Paris as Counsellor, Science, Technology and Space Affairs and Canada’s Delegate to the European Space Agency. He became Director General, Space Technologies, in 2004.

Since 2010, Mr. Leclerc leads the Space Exploration Sector of the Canadian Space Agency, managing Canada’s participation in the International Space Station, astronomy and planetary missions, space robotics, human spaceflight, and life sciences programs. In 2013 and 2014, Mr. Leclerc served as Acting President and Vice President of the CSA.

Mr. Leclerc is a Member of the Canadian Aeronautics and Space Institute, the American Institute of Aeronautics and Astronautics, and the Ordre des Ingénieurs du Québec.
